orange hand people

Today I’m giving a little nod to this charmingly creepy duo who made a cameo in my earlier post about my restyled vintage credenza. I picked them up at a thrift store in my hometown in Pennsylvania. Ann’s Consignment Shop to be precise, a funny little shop in the space that used to be the old roller rink in town, where my mom can remember skating as a kid. The floor in the store is still the same old wooden planks they skated on. So cool.

Anyway, these guys are ceramic candelabras, I believe homemade at an unknown date during the great era of painting ceramics (I wish painting ceramics would make a comeback, don’t you?). Cost: $4 for the set.

Even though I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to be Christmas angels or a snow prince-and-princess or something, I keep them out all year because I just love their weirdness. I can never remember to buy candles for them to hold, but clementines turned out to be the perfect thing to perch in their strange little hands.
