Well, I never did make Ukranian eggs this year, there’s just been too much going on. But here’s a pic of an egg I made last year – this is one that’s survived the test of time without cracking or exploding, so I was able to display it once again this Easter.
This is just a regular chicken egg. I wish I could share a step-by-step on making Ukranian eggs because I think it’s a fascinating and somewhat magical technique, but I guess that will have to wait till next year. I know, I know, you won’t be able to sleep all year with the anticipation – I’m sorry to do that to you!
What I did make this year is quail easter eggs! This was a first for me, but I saw a container of these mini eggs at the market and decided to go for it. I love the speckled look, I wish I had a little bird’s nest to display these in. I just used regular old Paas dyes for these, and I was happy that the color turned out nicely since the eggs are a light brown to begin with and I wasn’t sure how they would take the dye.
Hope you all had a great Easter, for those of you who celebrate it.
